Mother's Day 2016

"It's not dirt," said Lilly matter-of-factly when she handed me the present she made for me at Tree Top.  Later, she informed me I could open my present after breakfast and then "we can plant!".  Hmm, wonder what my present is? :^)

Greta's gift to me - she slept through the night!  (Also a cute handprint magnet for the fridge.)

Lilly's gift was indeed a jar of dirt but it also included chive seeds.  She also had another fill in the blank sheet, this year is not as entertaining as the one from last year .  The ending is actually kind of sad.   The underlined parts are what she said:

I love you because . . .
You play ninjas with me.
You make me laugh when you tickle me
You tell me I am funny
You are the best hugger
You taught me how to be a big help
You share cinnamon rolls with me.
You are so fun
You build me up when you say it's bed time/snack time
You help me build my towers if they fall down
I know you will never leave me.

(my guess is she didn't know what build me up means!)

Our plan for the day was out to lunch at Co-Co's and a hike.  Well, Greta normally takes a 30 minute nap in the morning but today she went down later and decided to sleep for over an hour.  Finally, Lilly and I went upstairs and made noise to wake her up.  We went out to lunch and had a nice time, then back home.  Lilly had quiet time looking at books in her room until she came out asking Nick for some scissors, then back in her room to actually look at books or color - no scissor use without adult supervision.  Greta went down for a late nap, so we weren't ready to hit the road for our hike until 4:30.  Our original plan was to hike St Peter's Dome, but that is 45 minutes south of Ashland, so we went to the old stand by, Houghton Falls, or as Lilly calls it, The Free Woods.

Here are some photos from another hike in the Free Woods:

Free!  Greta was done with the carrier

Wearing a watch.  It was very important that she could see the "time"

Another delightful Mother's Day.  Lilly told me that she loves, loves, loves, loves, LOVES me on Mother's Day.

Oh, and shortly after Greta's first birthday, Nick came home with this amazing cake from the local bakery for me to celebrate having successfully nursed Greta for an entire year.  It lasted for a few days and when we had the last pieces, it was a sad, sad day.
