August 2019 - Non-boating Adventures

June and July had more structured events like summer school, the play, and tennis.  August left our days more open to free play and creativity flowing.

Lilly decided not to do soccer this summer but Greta still wanted to play, so we signed Greta up.  Most of the time Lilly was happy with her decision but when Greta would come home with snacks from soccer practice (particularly a juice box), she seemed a little disappointed.

Lilly often reads in many different positions:

Greta isn't a very aggressive player but will get into the mix every now and again.

At the end of her kindergarten year, they took a field trip to the Hayward wilderness park.  Then that summer we had to make a family trip there ourselves.  At the end of first grade, they took a trip to the Cable Natural History museum, so of course we had to make a family trip there.  It actually is a pretty great little museum and we had a nice time in Cable for the day.

Playing the outdoor instruments - they were entertained for quite some time by these.

Lilly had mentioned a park they stopped at on their trip but no one really seemed to know what park she was talking about.  So we ended up at this park, an extension of the Cable Natural History Museum.  They had a craft set up for families, so the girls made some sculptures and then we explored the trails that had a play house set up in a old tree and other fun adventures along the way.

We had lunch at a lovely cafe and then found out where the park just might be.  We decided to call it Tall Park, as the playground was rather high up from the ground.

We don't make it as often as we should, but we occasionally make it to the Farmer's Market in Ashland.  The big hit that the market had this year was honey sticks.

August brought a trip to Nick's Aunt and Uncle's cabin near Eagle River for the weekend.  It was a wonderful weekend on the water.  They are gracious and fun hosts and we always have lots of laughs and lots of good food!

Lilly was willing to try waterskiing!  Abbey was a great and patient teacher.  She tried once and that was enough for her, but we were pretty proud of her for trying!

What was more successful was tubing.  These four kids had an awesome time!
