July finally warms up and we can have all sorts of adventures: tennis, bike rides, Dairy Queen ice cream, and trips in the Blueberry Ferry.
We took a trip to Long Lake and had a wonderful time with my parents and my brother and his family. We swam, we played games, we hunkered down during a pretty intense storm. There will be another post forthcoming because I can't seem to find those photos at the moment.
Nick purchased a new-to-him paddle board to use for surfing, as well as for Lilly to use. It needed some repair work, so Greta and Nick worked together to do the improvements.
Every summer brings a dinner party welcoming new Northland faculty. The girls decided to dine in the trees.
On a particularly hot day, we took the Blueberry Ferry out and did some exploring. Dinner on the boat, exploring Off Off Cove (we developed a habit of naming the different spots around the lake), and then checking out the Ashland Light House.
The lake near the light house is 30 feet deep. I'd say we've come a long way with Lilly. When she was 15 months old she refused to get in the bathtub and now she's swimming in water 30 feet deep, even jumping off the boat to get in!
Our summer is spent also doing science experiments and fun adventures. This was making our own lava lamps with water, oil, food coloring, and alkaseltzer.
July also brings Board Across the Bay, Nick's big race every year. He added to his collection of first place finishes. One of these years he'll get a racing board and then maybe his victory won't be a sure thing.
Berries finally come in during late July, so we make an effort to go picking a few times.
The game transitioned then to being veterinarians.
The end of July brought a sad moment and a life-changing moment for our family. First, the sad one - our dear friends moved from Ashland to Hudson.
We really miss them but know their new jobs and new home are treating them well.
Now, the life-changing moment. Lilly did the Chequamegon Theatre Association's Children's Theatre Camp. Every kid who shows up gets a part in the play. This year they did Tom Sawyer and Lilly was assigned the role of River Rat. She had lines to memorize, blocking to memorize - all in a week. They had practice from 12:30-4:30 every day. Lilly fell in love with theatre hook, line, and sinker. Greta and I would walk her down to practice and then walk back to get her in the afternoon. (The theatre is conveniently a few blocks from our house).

| Sometimes biking is just too much work, especially after a long but fun weekend. |

| We made a stop at the Coast Guard park in Bayfield. |
As I got to these pictures, I smiled to myself, remembering how fun this was to watch. The girls were pretending to give a show about different animals, like we've seen at the library. I especially like that she took a winter glove out when handling the stuffed owl.
