Nick's parents and my parents met us at the Eau Claire Children's Theatre to see the play Henry and Beezus (or something like that). It was Greta's first play and she was entranced. Stared at the stage the entire time. We all enjoyed the performance. Traveling with the girls is becoming much easier, Lilly will listen to audiobook and read, fidget with little toys in her seat. Greta is a little higher maintenance but nothing like she used to be. In fact, I read an entire graphic novel/memoir myself on the way down, Hey Kiddo! by Jarrett J. Krosoczka (I highly recommend it - teenagers and up though!). Greta will play a bit, stare out the window, and listen to audiobook as well.
I don't have a recollection of this, but apparently it snowed while we were down in Eau Claire. Greta made this footprint art on Tim and Dianne's back deck.
After our trip to Eau Claire, the girls had Thanksgiving on their mind, when they would have their cousins to play with as well. This lead to scheming and planning for the battle.
I don't remember all the details (a downfall of the blogging nearly a year later plan), but this is a pretty sweet family portrait that Greta drew. I'm not sure why we all look angry though . . .
Lilly wrote and illustrated this awesome story:
Translation: I went to the ocean of mermaids. I had fun. I saw mermaids. The mermaids sent me on a mission. I had two days. I had to find the mermaids queen in two days. I found the mermaids queen and the mermaid witch. I had . . . (apparently it is a to be continued).
Nick continued to paddle, his goal is to make it 12 months out of the year. They have yet to make it, February proves to be too cold and too short. Here are some pictures from his November paddle:
As I mentioned earlier, Greta enjoys sleep (although if you tell her this, she denies it and says she doesn't like going to sleep. She also informs us that she doesn't want to grow, so therefore she doesn't need to sleep). She is nearly impossible to wake up some mornings, and will sometimes be found in interesting positions in her sleep.
My brother sent me a selfie with his son, so the girls and I sent a selfie back.
We got a light dusting of snow (we'd get more, stay tuned for our impressive use of snow in our backyard this winter!) but we had to get the sled out and give them rides. Not quite as easy as it used to be.
The remote control truck provides lots of entertainment and fun, as well as lots of opportunities for repairs. The girls have done a lot to help Nick fix it.
Lilly, reading.
Greta helping clean on one of our massive cleaning days.
Lilly was doing research on beetles (I think).
Then it was Thanksgiving (it was my birthday before that, but there aren't really any photos from then. It looks like we went and played at the Field House but there weren't really any good photos).
We headed down to Eau Claire per usual. We went to Carson Park and met Matt, Mandy, and my mom there. We had a great time playing on the awesome playground equipment.
We hung out at my parents' house for the night and then did the Turkey Trot Thanksgiving morning. It was really cold. I mean, really cold. We were late, so kind of skipped a bit of the beginning, but not much. The girls were troopers and walked most of it. Not sure if we'll do it again.
After the Trot, we ended up at Nick's parents' house for the rest of the weekend. It did not involve the crazy attack plans that Greta and Lilly came up with (they came up with many the weeks building to Thanksgiving) but fun was had, books read, crafts made.

I believe I have mentioned that Greta has issues in the morning . . .
Greta (and eventually Lilly) gets project kits every month in the mail. Each box has a theme and there are three projects to complete, as well as a little magazine to read. The theme for November was pirates. Lilly struggled with the fact that Greta got them and she wasn't, but she also did a great job of helping Greta with them and waiting her turn.
Greta and Lilly truly do love one another and get along so well. We truly are lucky. They will play well together for hours, only with minor squabbling, and will often be seen snuggling while watching TV.

After fun with the Robertson family, we switched gears and went to my brother's house in Menomonie for the Snustad Family Thanksgiving. While all the house switching is pretty crazy, I love Thanksgiving because it is just about family (and food). No pressure for gifts, just hanging out and spending time together. Our adventures included driving the remote control car, epic toilet tag, and magic.

After the required family portrait, we headed back to Ashland so we had a day to recollect ourselves before school got back into swing. Growing up we didn't put the Christmas tree up until the middle of December, but we've taken to putting up our holiday decorations when we get back from Thanksgiving to help distract the girls from their disappointment at leaving family. It seems to work well, and we can enjoy the decorations for longer. Lilly also got into magic after spending time with Uncle Mike and started putting on her own magic shows.

This drawing is probably one of my favorites from Lilly's year in first grade. Can you guess what book it was based on?
