I haven't locked down the blog yet, so if you are interested in following our adventures (and my mid-year resolution is to catch up and keep up on the blog) please email me and I will get you on the list!
Per usual, Lilly was loving school. Her art teacher has a great philosophy, teaching the kids how to break down things into simple lines so they can draw them. The first big project was chameleon. Lilly then came home and taught us.
At the end of the year she came home with the final product of their chameleon project:
There were a variety of Halloween adventures for us to attend. We did the usual Haunted Trail, as well as Fright Night at Northland put on by chemistry students, and Halloween STEM at the library.
STEM night at the library involved building candy catapults, making flying paper bats, and other fun adventures.
Lilly is more than an avid reader. I don't know if there is even a word that can describe this girl's love of reading. When she picks up a book, she's gone to the world. If we need her attention it takes about 7-10 times of saying her name before she'll notice we are talking to her. She'll read anything and everything, although her absolute favorite are graphic novels.
Lilly also lost a tooth in the fall and wrote a note to the Tooth Fare (Fairy). She was going to write out all her questions, but due to time constraints I stepped in and wrote her questions out for her. For some reason, she doesn't like to put the tooth under her pillow, but rather puts the tooth on the note, in a circle with an arrow pointing to the tooth, labeled "tooth".
Greta does not like to wake up in the morning (she is truly her mother's daughter!). Some mornings we'll bring her down to the downstairs playroom and she'll curl back up on the floor and doze some more while Nick (usually) makes her breakfast. Sometimes she even gathers blankets and pillows to make her morning snooze more comfortable.
Now, Halloween. I am a fan of making one's own Halloween costume. I remember putting together costumes as a kid (my favorite I think was when I went as a pencil sharpener). The early years of Halloween we didn't construct their costumes, but they were put together from stuff around the house, we didn't buy costumes. Halloween 2018 was no different, although there was much more construction that happened. Lilly threw the gauntlet down though and wanted to be a banana that you could have either be unpeeled, or peeled. Greta chose to be an ice cream truck.
Before the night of Halloween, Greta's costume became a toy. The girls played mechanic and made repairs on Greta's truck.
Another year meeting up with Alma to go trick or treating. Alma didn't last long and neither did Greta. Nick and Greta ended up driving back home and Lilly and I continued on, walking over a mile and a half to get back home. We were both pretty tired by the time we finally got to our doorstep.
Remember how I said Lilly will read everything and everywhere? Here she is reading at the bus stop.
