We wrapped up our summer heading down to the Twin Cities. We spent Saturday driving down and then visiting Sam, Suzy, and Julian at their house, heading to the park and then going out to dinner. They live in walking distance of this amazing park, Powderhorn Park. We played and chatted, having a great time catching up and chatting.

Our festivities were a bit rushed because of incoming storms, and part of our drive home was kind of nerve wracking with the heavy rains, winds, and storms, but everything seemed to work out fine. Not nearly as intense as the last rainstorm we drove home in, but we are learning maybe we shouldn't leave Ashland. Every time we do, we end up driving home in bad weather.
Greta didn't seem to mind the weather (and if you look closely, you can see that her hand is still in her cracker container . . . ).
Technically, our summer wasn't quite over. When we returned from our trip to Minneapolis, it was back to work and Tree Top for a few days. Then one last family hurrah before school officially started. So I guess this post doesn't quite wrap things up either.

We left with tentative plans to meet for breakfast the next morning, as we were staying at our friends Tim and Elizabeth's place in St Paul by Union Depot. It didn't work out, so we went out for breakfast the four of us, then walked around the St Paul's Farmers Market. Lilly had her heart set on getting some sunflowers, so we carefully rationed our cash and she was able to pick out three.
The other reason we travelled down to the Twin Cities was my extended family was gathering to visit my grandfather's grave at the cemetery and then have a potluck picnic at the park. Rather than talking to the girls about death and those conversations, Nick and the girls stayed at the park while the rest of us went to the cemetery. Then we all gathered for great fun, laughs, and delicious food.
The park was along the Mississippi and the girls had a great time tossing rocks. They also (and therefore we) had a terrible night of sleep, so everyone was a little on edge.
