August Adventures

I am taking a page out of my friend Emily's playbook and not really skipping ahead.  I am going to get summer done before I post first day of first grade photos.

My parents took a little trip with some friends to the UP in Michigan and stopped by Ashland since they were already pretty far north.  What did we make them do?  Ride in the car back to Michigan and visit Little Girl's Point.  It was a very hot day and the beach was actually pretty darn crowded.  And by crowded I mean each family had about 10 feet of beach space to themselves and we had plenty of space to explore and swim around.  We still were disappointed there were so many people there.

Lilly really liked spending some of her time climbing the steep hillside behind us and hanging out up there.  At one point she asked to have the camera and take some pictures.  This is what she took:

The selfie just makes me laugh so hard!

One of the highlights of Little Girls Point are all the rocks.
We had to put a cap on Lilly and how many she could bring home.

My parents also brought some rocks from their vacation with them.  One was a geode, which they cracked open.

For a few years I participated in the Point to LaPointe swim, swimming from Bayfield out to Madeline Island, a 2.2 open water swim.  I convinced my friend Elizabeth to start doing the swim with me, and then I stopped doing it.  Elizabeth, on the other hand, continues to do the race every year, with little to no training.  This year the girls and I kept her company while she did her one and only training swim at Long Lake.  The girls had a great time swimming in the water and Lilly even is dunking her head underwater!

All of the summer we spent much of our time at the library or at library affiliated programs.  Two Mondays Lilly went to the Lunch Bunch, where they read a story, ate pizza, did a craft and played a game.  Tuesdays we went to craft time and story time at the library.  Wednesdays was Rec and Read at different parks.

The last week of July and start of August marked the start of soccer.  Since Greta was so interested in Lilly's tennis, we figured we'd let her participate in U4 soccer.  That's right, soccer for 2 and 3 year olds.  It meant some juggling for a few weeks, for tennis went a bit into August.  Lilly had soccer from 5:00-5:30. Greta's soccer was from 5:30-6:00.  Lilly's from 6:30-7:30.  We juggled it seamlessly, even fitting in meals!

One of the greatest things this summer was watching Lilly and Greta play together and practice negotiating and compromising on what they were going to play.  It was also fun to see where their imaginations would take them.  Here was playing farm and doing the laundry.

Wow, so this was really just the end of July and the first few days of August.  I am coming up on a big Robertson Family gathering in Ashland in our friends' house on the lake, so I'll write about that another day!
