August 2019 - Non-boating Adventures

June and July had more structured events like summer school, the play, and tennis. August left our days more open to free play and creativity flowing. Lilly decided not to do soccer this summer but Greta still wanted to play, so we signed Greta up. Most of the time Lilly was happy with her decision but when Greta would come home with snacks from soccer practice (particularly a juice box), she seemed a little disappointed. Lilly often reads in many different positions: Greta isn't a very aggressive player but will get into the mix every now and again. At the end of her kindergarten year, they took a field trip to the Hayward wilderness park. Then that summer we had to make a family trip there ourselves. At the end of first grade, they took a trip to the Cable Natural History museum, so of course we had to make a family trip there. It actually is a pretty great little museum and we had a nice time in Cable for the day. ...

Five Weeks and Gardening

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I'm already back at work. I only had enough sick/personal days to cover five weeks, I took 4.5 days without pay. To make it through the end of the school year would take 16.5 days without pay and that would be a bit much. Plus, Nick wants time home with Greta (and how do you say no, you can't bond with your daughter?) and it will make it going to work easier in the fall (potentially!). There are many posts that I mean to write and pictures to post but between working, catching up on grading, and trying to take care of two girls and the house, blogging has fallen to the wayside. I tried to work on some school work tonight, but this seemed more important. There are only three days left of school and my students are doing presentations anyway. Greta Visits Eau Claire

Reflecting on a fabulous weekend from September . . . (and finishing the post I started the week we returned) Our lives have been busy since the start of the year and we are reluctant to wander much on the weekends. The weekends are when we get caught up on laundry, house cleaning, dishes, work for work, and most importantly time with the girls. This past weekend though we made an exception and headed to Eau Claire. Why the exception? Nick's Uncle Dave, Aunt Nancy and his dad's cousin Kathy were visiting. We haven't seen them, or met Kathy, in ages (the summer we got married) and were eager to catch up and have them meet Lilly and Greta. What did we do? We hung out, talked a lot, admired Lilly and Greta, and willing adults humored Lilly and played doctor. A lot of doctor.
