Pre-Christmas 2017

First, leading up to Christmas.

When we came back from Thanksgiving, we got our Christmas decorations up and then decorated the tree.

Not sure exactly when these photos are from besides the window between Thanksgiving and Christmas, but they were too cute to leave out.

A friend and colleague of mine owns a side business of paint your own pottery (and Crossfit, a natural business combination).  We headed up to Washburn to paint some Christmas ornaments.  We did this last year as well and I think it may just become a tradition.

Reluctantly, we also made a trip to Duluth for Bentleyville, the cow-herding city of lights.  They decorate with many different Christmas lights and I am pretty sure everyone in the state of Minnesota and Northern Wisconsin visit.  Knowing it was going to be very busy, we went to the aquarium first so we had prime parking right next to Bentleyville.  We explored the aquarium, walked to a pizza place for dinner, and then we went to the craziness of the Christmas light show.  You can't really stop explore any lights, you just kind of get shoved along with the crowd.

Also before Christmas we had a parenting first, our first holiday concert.  The night before, Lilly had invited our friends Tim and Elizabeth to come.  Elizabeth had a lunch meeting with a colleague, but she said she would reschedule it.  We assured them after Lilly was in bed that she really didn't need to do that.  That day, I was at a workshop at CESA and Nick had to work.  Nick was stuck in a conversation and was running late, so we were rushing to get to the concert on time.  We forgot that we lived in a small town, so not only were parents going to be there but aunts, uncles, grandparents.  As we ran toward the school because we were parked what seemed like miles away, we passed Tim and Elizabeth's car and thought, well, at least she will have someone there!  We did manage to get there before the kindergarten music show started, had standing room off to the side, but were able to see her and enjoy the holiday show.

After the show we walked back to her classroom, picked up her cute snowman, snagged a photo, and then headed back to work.

We also invited Alma over and decorated Christmas cookies.  I learned don't put the red frosting in front of the two year old.

Elizabeth came over for dinner sans Tim and started two fun new games.  Parade and sleep until Santa comes, Lilly being an elf.

Our last week before break was a Winter Fun spirit week at school.  One day was dress as your favorite holiday movie character, so the English department dressed up like Frosty.  A student dressed up as Rudolph, so joined our photo.  Another day was dress up like your favorite winter sport, so the other English 9 teacher and I dressed up in cross country ski gear.

Finally, we did a winter craft activity with our ninth graders, making giant snowflakes.  I tried it out first with the girls.

Okay, that should hold you over for the excitement of Christmas for now.
