Beach Night

It is hot here in Ashland, and we don't do hot.  Not a single person in our family likes hot weather.  It was 88 degrees today and the hallway in Nick's building was 94 degrees.  He sent his research students home early, he came home early and we packed up and went to the Coal Dock in Washburn, which doesn't sound like a beach, but it is.  Here are some photos from the night as we play with our new camera.  Everyone got a chance to go out on the board and everyone had a great time.

After some playing in the water, we had our picnic dinner (cold pasta salad), guarding our food from the dogs that were at the beach.  One dog came along and peed right behind Lilly, marking this spot as his.

After dinner, I took the paddle board and the camera out and explored a section of Lake Superior I had never seen before.

Nick falling in on purpose to cool down and entertain his children

After talking myself into it, I finally went all the way in

Lilly put her face in the water!! Without covering it with her hands!
She has made such huge progress this summer.  (And this photo makes
it look like she put more than just her face in, but she just went as far
as her hairline).

Lilly really wanted to take an underwater photo, at first she was just
going to take a photo of the sand, but I encouraged her to find something
a bit more interesting.  This is what she picked, our feet.

We had such a wonderful time and stayed cool, had a nice picnic at the beach.  Then we came home, the girls had Drumstick ice cream cones (leftover from Grandma's trip to the grocery store with them) and then I rushed Greta up to the bathtub to clean her off!

Luckily for us, just a few more hot days and down to 57 degrees by the end of the week.  Thank goodness!!  (Unfortunately Lilly has soccer tomorrow night and the high for tomorrow is 84).
