My parents always come up Memorial Day Weekend to help us put in the garden and help out while Nick is busy Friday evening and all day Saturday with graduation responsibilities. This year, Matt and Mandy came up and joined in the fun as well.
We grilled Friday night and hung out in the backyard. Nick's research group came over midweek and Lilly and one of his students made many volcanoes in the sandbox, so when her geologist uncle came to visit, of course they had to continue making volcanoes.
After our visit, we headed on to hike Houghton Falls, the free woods. My brother got some amazing shots with his camera. Mandy amazed Lilly with the identification of wintergreen and Lilly kept wanting to eat more and more of it.
Usually my dad helps us put in the garden, but this weekend we had another job for him - help put shelves in the basement. My dad was a machine, building one set before Nick was home from graduation festivities.
The two then worked tirelessly together and finished shelving on the north side of the basement. Now we have copious amounts of storage space . . . that is already all filled.
One of Nick's non-favorite, favorite students graduated this year. Sam was the commencement speaker and apparently did an amazing job.
Matt and Mandy left after lunch on Saturday but my parents stayed through Monday morning before heading to their friend's house. Saturday evening we went to the Hofstedt's house and had a nice dinner with friends and they were kind enough to let my parents tag along.
Sunday we took a trip to my classroom and packed things up, we hung out while Nick and my dad built shelves, and Lilly and my mom made a stop-motion film. Books were read and good times were had.
It is always nice to visit with the family and always nice to get projects done around the house.

Saturday we all made a trip to my cousin Abby's farm on the way to Washburn. Her family raises alpacas, chickens, ducks, and bees. They also do heirloom tomato starters, so my mom and I picked up our orders.

We checked out the animals and Lilly and Miles played hide and seek and climbed the hay bales in the barn.
