Thursday was Greta's second birthday! She is quite the girl and we had a fun time celebrating with her. Not only was Thursday her birthday, it was the Easter party at Tree Top. Lots of fun was had, probably resulting in her not so happy attitude at bedtime.
First an update:
She went to the doctor the following day and was a champ, showing true toddler behavior by refusing to walk when the doctor asked her to walk. She weighs 25 pounds and is 34.5 inches tall. That's 50th percentile for weight and 75th for height. During the shot she was upset until the Bugs Bunny bandaid was on and during the finger prick to test for lead and iron she was just plain irritated.
Tricks include climbing on everything (including the front of the stove - luckily it wasn't on), galloping, jumping and running.
She understands numbers and letters and has an awesome rendition of the ABCs I hope to get good video of it before she actually learns them. She knows the numbers 1-10 but rarely gets them anywhere close to the right order. Before everything was the color yellow, but now she identifies colors with an 85% accuracy I would estimate.
Over the last few months she's also become more interested in listening to books for longer periods of time, which means we are revisiting the Mr Putter and Tabby series by Cynthia Rylant, which is awesome because those books are terrific. She mostly speaks in 2-3 word sentences but will pull out 4-5 word phrases now and again too. One of my favorites is that she often remembers on her own to say please and thank you. Another favorite is she calls the library the li-book.
By far her favorite thing to play is in the play kitchen and will spend long stretches of time playing there independently. In fact, if you try and play with her she will get irritated. Often she is cooking for her babies, who she will bounce and say, "shhh" to and then put them to bed. Greta and Lilly are starting to play more and more together which is a lot of fun to watch.
Now, back to the big day:
On her birthday, we allowed her to open one present before she had breakfast, more for Lilly's sake than Greta's (she was incredibly eager for her sister's birthday and did quite a good job letting Goo be the center of attention). Greta picked opening the present from my grandma, who always gets the presents spot on.
As I mentioned, at Tree Top it was celebrate Greta's birthday and their Easter party. Greta brought ice cream treats for everyone (she often suggested she was going to bring noodles for her treat). I believe I've mentioned Greta's bunny obsession, but in case I haven't, I'll quickly repeat it here. Greta saw a bunny run away at daycare months ago. She still talks about it to this day - the bunny ran away fast. You mention the word bunny, she immediately follow up by saying, "away, fast." So Marissa, being the awesome teacher she is, gave her a birthday hat that had bunnies and the word fast on it. (Also, leading up to her birthday I would ask Greta what she wanted, she told me "birthday hat.")
Not only did Greta have a hard time showing two fingers, she struggles to tell you exactly how old she is.

After pick up, we had dinner at home (we went out the night before because we didn't have all the ingredients for our planned dinner) and then headed to the park to play for a bit. At some point she opened her other presents now but I don't remember the order.
Lilly is tremendously into what we call the "how about" game, where she barrages us with "how about you" and then finishes up with what we will do in her imaginary world. At the park we were Octonauts, she was Tweak and fixing the gups.
When we returned quite chilled from the park, the girls split an ice cream sandwich. We sang to Greta, she tried to grab the candle (or as she was calling it, her birthday hat), and then she ate her sandwich by pulling off one layer of the chocolate and shoving the ice cream in her face.

| Lilly trying to help Greta show two fingers - they settled on two thumbs up and both girls hopping down the bunny trail, although it appears Greta is walking and doing so reluctantly. |

Greta's birthday was followed by a terrific four day weekend, including a visit by my parents, an Easter Egg "hunt," and a trip to Granny Goose. More details to come!
