Late November and Early December

I worked on a scarf for Lilly during the movie this evening, so here's a late blog post, scrambling to make my goal.  I'm working my way through iPhoto, trying to remember all the fun we had as 2016 wraps up and we move on to 2017.

Nick ordered some warmer paddling boots and a paddling helmet, since he feels it is necessary to stand up paddle board on Lake Superior until it has frozen over.  The helmet is for the windy days and the board blowing, along with keeping his head safe if he were to fall in and hit his head on a rock.  Lilly felt the need to try the boots on and Greta, seeing her dad wearing a helmet, needed to wear her helmet as well.  Nick had to try his helmet on over his wetsuit-like paddling hat, so the girls needed to wear that too (and the box the stuff came in, of course, had to be played with as well).

After dinner, we worked together to bring the regular tires down to the basement.  Lilly is pleased as punch to have the snow tires on both minivans.  Safety is her number one concern and when the snow starts to fly, the snow tires best be on the cars.

As I have mentioned before, Lilly has a very hard time coming home after Thanksgiving, so we use getting the house ready for Christmas as one of the ways to get her out of her funk.  Until this year, we've never had a Christmas tree.  We broke down and bought an artificial tree, which breaks my heart, but with Lilly's allergies doing quite well, we didn't want to bring in pollen or whatever else would be in the tree and have it hanging out in the house for a month.  And, according to Nick, it might be more environmentally responsible to have an artificial tree, but he hasn't done all the math yet.  So, for right now, we have a fake tree, which I am coming to terms with, a month later.  (Not really, but it is what is right for us right now.)

Here's Lilly putting the paper star on the top of the tree, my friend Frances made it years ago and mailed it to us. Greta was playing at the play kitchen, because that's what she does.

Greta adores Christmas lights.  Here she is admiring the neighbor's display.  (And when she sees Christmas lights, she says "Li-lighs.  Li-lighs.")

We'll end with December 4th, when our good friends Tim and Elizabeth came over for dinner, followed by games once the girls were in bed.  And, since they are Lilly's best friends, they were quite silly - perfect for a four year old.

Now to read a little bit, so I am not totally schooled in the "Read More than Mrs. Robertson Reading Challenge".  Happy New Year everyone!
