My mom was here this morning, leaving around 12:30 to head back to Eau Claire. She came up on Wednesday with my Dad and brother. Wednesday evening my brother had his stream table at the Bayfield Science Night and Thursday the three of them went on a fishing charter. Photos from that to come later, once my mom shares them with me.
She took Greta when she woke up early and Lilly when she woke up early as well. Nick and I were able to sleep until 9:00 AM, a wonderful start to the day. Nick spent the morning at work, I ran an errand with Lilly and then for a run with Petra.
In the afternoon after quiet time, Nick and Lilly headed outside to rake up a giant pile of leaves. I stayed inside because Greta was taking a rockstar nap, and we were having company over for dinner, so I was doing some dishes and preparing food for dinner. And thanks to my mom doing our laundry and vacuuming our house, doing our dishes, it was easy to prep for company.
Then outside for playing in the leaves once Greta woke up. Nick and I traded off and on, watching the girls and preparing for dinner.
Alma, her mom Petra, and Nick's colleague David came over for dinner. We grilled brats, hot dogs, veggie dogs, and acorn squash. The three girls had a great time playing together before dinner in the leaves and in the play kitchen. It is quite fun to eavesdrop on their conversations.
We had a very early dinner because tonight was the Haunted Trail at Northland, one of Lilly's favorite aspects of Halloween. She has even asked about it a few times. So we said our goodbyes to our guests and headed to Northland for the Haunted Trail.
It was a lovely evening for the event and both girls seemed to have a good time. Lilly wasn't too spooked, just a little nervous at times. Greta was just taking everything in, staring at the people along the trail. My favorite moment was when the young woman dressed like a zombie school girl asked Lilly if she wanted to play and Lilly's response was, "No thank you."
At the end of the trail, we crossed the footbridge and Lilly and Nick had S'Mores. Greta just ate a graham cracker (and it took her the time there, the walk to the van, the van ride home, and some time at home to finish it!). On the way back to the car, Greta said her version of "haunted trail."
When we got home and they were finishing snacks, I tried to get Greta to say haunted trail again. This was what I got first:

Then I solicited the help of her big sister and got this:

And in 2013, here is Lilly saying haunted trail:
