I recently learned of a new corn maze near Ashland, since Don's Pumpkin Patch, our old standby, has closed since Don decided to retire and no one took over his farm. So last year we had no pumpkin patch adventure or corn maze, which saddened me. However, this year, we were able to drive to Mason, WI, about 20 minutes south of Ashland, to enjoy a 20 acre corn maze.
We weren't committed to going today, it didn't open until 12:00 on Sundays, which meant going to before nap time wasn't going to happen, but Greta woke up from her nap early and very angry at the world. Since it was sunny and warm, we figured we'd quickly pack up and head out. So glad we did, it was awesome and we all had a great time.
It started with a hay ride to the start of the maze, which Greta did not like at first - it was super bumpy. Lilly wasn't sure of it at first either, but seemed to come around to enjoy it.
Nick paid close attention to the surroundings on our drive to the start of the maze, the sky looked fairly ominous to the west - so he wanted to have a good sense of which direction to go in case it started to rain on us while we were in there.
After we got together and headed back up to the van, we stopped to buy a pumpkin. Lilly also got to pick a prize out of the big bin, which was nearly an impossible choice for her. So much candy, Halloween pencils and stickers, fake tattoos It was probably harder for her than figuring out a way out of the maze. I finally had to say she had to decide by the time I counted to ten in my head (she doesn't like it when I count out loud). She decided on a small box of Nerds. This was also her choice for her bedtime treat over the homemade apple pie we made together this afternoon.
It was a perfect day and writing and posting about it much more enjoyable than grading the last set of tests I have to grade or start in on the short story rough drafts. Now it is time that I have a slice of pie and go to bed, ready for another busy week.

There was a coffin that shook at the beginning, which scared Lilly, but the rest of the maze was very tame and fun
We made it successfully to the end with only a few mistakes. Lilly did a ton of running in the maze, and Greta was eager to "zoom" after her. Greta also enjoyed touching many of the corn stalks. Lilly's favorite part was the end of the maze. There was a giant tractor made out of hay bales, a corn box, a hay bale maze for kids, and bowling to knock down bottles filled with corn kernels.

This is just too cool

Greta did not move from her spot and LOVED the corn box. Lilly had lots of fun running around and making a "corn angel"

Lilly took off and did the maze herself no sweat.
The temperature took a quick drop and made it quite chilly. After we were gathering everyone off the big tractor, Lilly took off and went into the maze on her own. She was giggling and laughing as she ran through the maze, trying to get away from us.
