Many of Nick's relatives gathered near Eagle River, WI for the weekend of the Fourth. Luckily for us, Nick's uncle and aunt's cabin is just a mere two hours from our house. We packed up Saturday morning, hit the road, prepared for a crabby, fussy ride. It was an amazing ride. Probably the best we've ever had. Greta just fell asleep with a small amount of fussing. I read to Lilly for much of the drive.
We arrived early afternoon and spent time with Abbey (Nick's cousin, and as Lilly referred to her, Lilly's great cousin), Aunt Lynn and Uncle Dan (owners of the cabin), Sam, Suzy, and Nick's parents. Late afternoon Nick's aunt Kitty, cousin Melissa and her two kids, Abbysenia and Adonijah, also arrived. There was an intense game of giant Jenga and some time spent on the water. That evening we headed over to his other uncle and aunt's cabin (Bill and Jeanne), on a neighboring lake for a delicious chili dinner, amazing grilled pineapple and delicious dessert. Cousins Anna and Will were also there, and we all had great conversations, while keeping an eye on the kiddos.

Sunday arrived and more time was spent on the water. People hung out, ate good food, and went on boat rides on the water. Amanda, Nick's cousin, arrived with her two kids, Bennet and Hailey. Greta went down for an early nap and slept for quite a long time. I joked that we were moving in to the cabin, since she was napping so well and had slept through the night the night before. Turns out she wasn't taking a long nap because she slept well, she was sick. She spiked a fever and was only happy if she was in Nick's arms, and moderately happy in my arms.

The crew went and watched fireworks Sunday night, which we hear were amazing. We stayed back with a four year old who was heartbroken to not be going to the fireworks or getting a s'more and a very unhappy baby. It was a very rough night of sleep, or more accurately, lack of sleep. We all slept in Monday morning, had one more round playing in the lake, and left after Greta took a nap. And, the girl slept mostly on the drive home too! There was some crying and fussing this time, but no long stretches.

Nick and I had nice conversations with family members, had wonderful meals with everyone, and everyone seemed to have a great time. Lilly had lots of people read to her, which was a dream come true. As I work on this, Nick and I really only remember Greta being sick. So I apologize for the lack of detail about the weekend.
Greta stayed home on Tuesday, and it sounds like the minor virus was working its way through the baby room at day care, there was only one baby in the room on Tuesday.
A big thank you to the Weggel families for hosting us for the weekend, it was a fabulous time, even with a sick baby!
