New Bike!

Lilly's new bike arrived at the bike shop today.  She has never been all that excited about the Strider bike (pedal-less) we got her when she was 18 months old or so.  Her trike has been her preferred method of transportation but we convinced her after bike-o-rama last Saturday.  Nick and Lilly went to the bike shop that afternoon, she picked out her bike (and Nick allowed her to do so), and Friday the phone call came that her bike had arrived and was ready for pick up.

Greta went down for her nap and we went out the three of us to try out the new bike.  Nick and I have never been sold on training wheels (or as Lilly calls them, practice wheels) because the balance is opposite what it needed for balancing on the two-wheeler.  However, Lilly is a bit of a nervous kid, since she never liked the Strider bike, and she loves pedaling her trike, we went with the training wheels.

The first few minutes she was pretty nervous and wanted to give up, but we encouraged her to make it to the for sale sign in the neighbor's yard.  Then, she made it down the block, back, and down and back on the next block.

Occasional stops were made to put things in the basket.
Here she is carrying the wrench Nick used to adjust her bike.

Nick and I counted up and she biked a total of 22 city blocks this afternoon/evening (in a few trips).  Greta tagged along for many of them in either my arms or Nick's arms and did some walking of her own.

Here are a few of the gems she said on the rides:

-"I wish we could visit Uncle Matt [who lives in NYC].  I could ride my bike and be a part of the busy."

-When she went to start up again and was struggling, "Come on momentum!"

-"My legs and momentum do teamwork."

-"When I am seven I will be a pro at this."

-Another biker went past, "He's wearing a cowboy hat.  I wonder where his helmet is."
