We woke up to some big snowflakes and strong winds but that wasn't going to stop our plans. Today was the annual Farm and Garden Show and Dairy Breakfast at the Civic Center in Ashland. We did not go for the breakfast (where apparently over 250 eggs are used to make omelets) but went to check out the petting zoo, put on by the FFA chapter at my high school. Lilly wasn't all that interested in petting the animals, and really looking at anything but the ducks and chickens. But she was
very interested in the chickens and ducks. All she really did was stay in front of those cages and watch them. They did also have: a calf, two goats, hairless cat, turtle, snake, bird, cats with fur, dogs, and a turkey.

We took a stroll around the hockey rink, checking out the booths and looking to see if my cousin was there. While we didn't run into her, we did run into about four other people we know and chatted briefly with them. The article in the paper said we'd run into neighbors and spend lots of time talking with people and that came true. While not interested at all in checking out the tractors, Lilly really wanted to see the petting zoo again, so Nick took her to check out the animals one last time. Then she had her face painted, a special request for a unicorn. Luckily the face painters are high school students and both former students, so were happy to oblige. We started to leave and ran into one more set of friends. A conversation started to happen but Lilly kept on walking toward the door, so it was very brief.

Unicorn face paint
We have been a royal unicorn family the last week (we
can shoot poison out of our horns to kill our predators) |
We also wanted to go check out the library, co-op, and the fire station open house (Ashland recently built a new fire station, just a few blocks from our house). All were accomplished but not by the entire family. After getting Greta down for her nap, Lilly and I headed to the library and the co-op. While checking out books at our return trip to the library because we forgot the book of knock knock jokes (our primary reason for going to the library today) Lilly informed the woman checking out our books, "my mom stole money out of my dad's wallet." (I had no cash but he did, and I was fairly certain we had a fine. But we didn't.)
When I read books to Lilly and unsuccessfully left her to nap (today was a no-nap day but she did look at books quietly in her room for an hour), Nick and Greta braved the cold wind to check out the new fire station. Apparently it is pretty nice and they have quite a bit of equipment. I decided Nick's visit was enough, I can live vicariously through him. Lilly was adamant she would not go and there was no changing her mind. The rest of the day was spent playing silly imaginary games and reading the books on Ancient Egypt from the library.
