Starting Daycare

School has been in session for a few weeks now - a week of inservice for me and students have been in classes for another.  That means back to Tree Top for Greta and Lilly.  Lilly loves it at Tree Top - she is very social and loves watching and learning from others.  I had a sneaking suspicion Greta would be the same way with the way she just adores her big sister and watches everything she does.  When we carry Greta, we need to carry her facing out so she can watch everything that is happening around her.  But still, dropping a four-month old off at day care wasn't something I was thrilled to be doing.  She's still really small and was just getting on a schedule of any kind, and when she was upset - cover your ears people.  I was nervous she was going to be crying tons while she was there and the women wouldn't be able to calm her down for our main method of calming her down is bouncing on an exercise ball.

The first day I technically didn't have to work, but with getting my classroom ready and preparing for training Link Crew leaders, I needed the extra time.  I was not emotionally ready to drop Greta off though, so Nick took that responsibility and brought them in.  Drop off was a little shaky but overall went well.

And the rest of her first day?  A little rough.  Lilly came up to me when I picked them up and said, "Greta did not have a great day."  And her second day?  I walk into Tree Top, Theresa (the owner and one of the teachers) says to me, "A perfect day."  And every day since then Greta has had happy, content days at Tree Top.  She loves watching all the bigger kids, she takes bottles just fine for them (although has more of a snacking approach to the day, rather than two-three bottles) and the real shocker - takes naps.  LONG naps.  In her crib.  As in over two hours - without being in a darkened room.  With other kids playing around her.  Remarkable.  Simply remarkable.

Her smooth transition has taken such a load off us.  And, has really calmed her down at home too.  She just seems happier all the time.  Part of us thinks she just got bored being at home with just us, especially just me.  Lilly was the same way.  Overall she was a challenging baby and once she started daycare, she became so much calmer.  And most nights - Greta is sleeping well because she's so worn out from a day of fun.

Greta's first day!

Lilly was (and is) so thrilled to have Greta there with her
