Robertson Reunion

Last weekend July 30th-August 2nd, the Robertson crew gathered in Ashland for a few days. Fun and adventure was had. Amazing food was consumed.  Swimming in cold Lake Superior was survived.  Paddle boarding was loved. Time together was great but all too brief.

Thursday early afternoon Tim arrived to help us get ready for the arrival of Nick's brothers, their partners, and their families. Thursday evening Ben, Becky, and their kids arrived. We grilled hamburgers and brats, and played outside.  Lilly had great fun running around in the yard being chased by her cousins.

It takes Lilly awhile to warm up to Grandpa, but
he can usually win her over with books

Friday morning we went to the bed and breakfast the brothers were staying at, Tim stayed back with Greta.  While Nick checked the place out with Lilly, I went out for my 2 mile run that ended up being 2.5 miles.  Lilly played chase with her cousins, watched them play croquet, and generally had a nice time.  When I got back from my run, she asked me to play chase.  I politely told her no.

We met back at the house for leftovers for lunch.  During nap time the Brainerd Robertsons headed to Maslowski beach and pulled bricks out of the water and had delicious snacks at Blue Wave Coffee Shop, a neat new coffee shop and hotel in Ashland.  Also during this time Dianne, Sam, Suzy, and Matt arrived at our house.  That evening we went to DaLou's and had tremendously delicious pizza.  Greta chilled while we had dinner and then fell asleep on the way home from Washburn, and stayed asleep while we visited the Purple Park for some intense games of Lava Monster.

Saturday morning we went blueberry picking after Tim swam the Point to LaPointe 2 mile lake swim in Lake Superior, his favorite open water swim event of the year.  This year he was joined with over 450 other swimmers!  Some people worked harder at picking blueberries than others.  Greta slept the entire time.  After blueberry picking we went to Souix Beach.  Here people played in the cold water, paddle boarded, and played in the sand.  And Greta fussed with Grandma and eventually went to sleep.

Then we headed back to Ashland, Nisse was driving up to Ashland and we needed to make sure we were at our house by the time she got there.  The afternoon was spent at our house and Matt cooked up an amazing dinner.  Nick got into a huge water fight with Nole, with Owen and Cally as not-so-innocent bystanders.  We also managed to get everyone together for a family photo.

Sunday the weather wasn't on our side.  Rain and passing thunderstorms slowed down a trip to the beach but it eventually worked out.  The Brainerd Bunch played for a bit until the rain came and then left.  They went back to the Purple Park once the rain stopped.  During the rain we drove around in attempts to get Greta to sleep and were eventually successful.  The rain stopped and Sam, Suzy, Nisse, and Matt took the paddle boards out.  We played at the shore and eventually Matt, Nisse, Suzy, and Nick jumped off the diving board.  Then it was time to head back to our house so Matt, Nisse, Sam, and Suzy could get back to the Twin Cities.  After transferring the kids' stuff from Ben and Becky's van to Tim and Dianne's and playing some in the backyard, the rest of the crew left.

Here are some miscellaneous photos from the weekend.

We really appreciate everyone taking the time to come and visit us so we didn't have to travel with a little one.  It was a wonderful time and we are looking forward to seeing everyone again soon.
