We have had a whirlwind of visitors the past few weeks . . . here is visit one.
Sam and Suzy were in Duluth to run Grandma's Marathon Saturday, June 20th. We are about 90 minutes east of Duluth, so they made a surprise trip over to Ashland to meet Greta and hang out with us after their run. We had a fabulous time and Lilly opened up to them right away.
They were clearly tired and sore from running a
marathon so we were low key Saturday evening. They played with Lilly as Nick and I made dinner, ciabatta pizzas on the grill. Lilly helped make a feta, spinach, almond, and strawberry salad and salad dressing. The recipe was from her Highlights magazine and so delicious. We enjoyed a scrumptious dinner on the deck.

We all went to bed early and had fun adventures biking around Ashland on Saturday. Nick and Lilly rode on the Weehoo - a tow behind we inherited from Ben and Becky, while Sam and Suzy borrowed some of our other bikes. They rode on the corridor through town and around to the park by the lake. Greta and I left a few minutes later in the minivan and met them there.

Greta fell asleep on the way over and stayed asleep for the entire
visit to the park. |
After playing at the park, we went down to the dock and checked out the lake.

After this dock, we headed over to the former ore dock. It has recently been reopened for people to go out on and explore. They hopped on their bikes, Greta and I headed on the van.

Greta and I walked back to the car and then home for her to eat. The others biked along the path to the Co-Op and picked up some lunch. They ate theirs at the Co-Op and they brought me home a delicious Thai Peanut wrap. All biked home, then Sam and Suzy headed back to Minneapolis. It was an unexpected visit and a wonderful one!
At day care Lilly painted this picture for Nick for Father's Day.
She also did a finish sentences about my dad for him. She was way more on the mark with his than with mine:
My dad is 38 or 33 years old. My dad's favorite thing to do is play with me. My dad's job is teach students about chemistry. My dad's favorite food is onions and tomatoes and salad. My favorite thing to do with my dad is playing, like playing puzzles. My dad is really good at building. My dad makes me laugh when he tickles me. I am so happy when me and my dad eat.
It was a wonderful way to spend Father's Day!
