Well, Greta is now three weeks old. We've talked lots at our house how it feels like she's just been with us forever, and we have to remind ourselves how young she still is. Which is probably a good thing, it means we've quickly gotten used to the idea that our lives are totally and utterly out of our control and that we'e stumbled into that routine.

Lilly is doing so amazingly well as a big sister. We are utterly amazed at how she has just rolled with the huge change in her life and how excited she is to be a big sister. Any time Greta is upset and Lilly is around, Lilly is there comforting her, rubbing her head or leg and calmly saying, "it's okay, it's okay." At times she struggles with the idea that she can't have mom right at the moment because I am feeding Greta and she is testing limits a bit (more so with me than with Nick) but she was also starting to test us more before Greta was born, so it isn't a direct correlation. Her daycare teacher mentioned to us she was prepared for a totally different Lilly once the baby arrived, and Lilly continues to be a great kid there and hasn't changed at all, minus just every now and again announcing, "I'm a big sister!" Lilly loves helping out and eagerly gets burp cloths, diapers, etc for us.

Lilly did a big race on Saturday. It was supposed to start at 11:30, we were there at 11:27
and the kid race was ending. But Lilly didn't seem to mind just running the race by herself. |
Also, on the way home from the race, Greta started fussing. Here's what we heard from Lilly, "It's okay. I know you're hungry, we're almost home. It wouldn't be safe to eat in the car."

We are also making sure she still gets lots of one-on-one time with her parents. A few weekends ago when Nick's parents were here, we went out to dinner just the three of us. We also make sure that her routine has stayed pretty much the same, minus visitors every weekend since Greta was born.

As for Greta, she does pretty much what we promised Lilly she was going to do, which is eat, sleep, and poop. For the most part she has been pretty mellow. She sleeps in her cradle half of the time, occasionally she will only want to sleep in our arms and does her longest stretches in someone's arms. The record stretch in her cradle has been three hours, usually she sleeps between one-two and a half hours between feedings at night. My big frustration has been she completely conks out while nursing and I have yet to figure out a way to wake her up. Even changing her diaper doesn't always work, or if it does wake her up, when she nurses on the other side, she conks out in seconds. So, not full, she wakes up in 15-30 minutes, so our sleep hasn't been that great. But I have hopes that as she keeps packing on the pounds she will be able to go for longer stretches.

At her two week check up Greta was 21.5 inches long and 7 pounds, six ounces. Her doctor remarked on how alert she was, especially for only being two weeks old. The remarkable thing for me with Greta is she does not scream bloody murder while riding in the car, only fusses a bit when she is getting hungry.
