Small Town Life

Nick and I have mainly lived in fairly decent sized towns, so moving to a town of 8,500ish people wasn't an easy decision.  Especially one without a Target, only one grocery store, mainly pizza restaurants as places to eat out, and scads of other small town disappointments (most recently being our Walmart alternative, Shopko, has officially closed its doors).  We've acclimated and have grown to like living just a few blocks from beautiful Lake Superior, only having six stoplights in the entire city, and never taking more than ten minutes to drive anywhere in town.  And when I am not super pregnant and trying my best to avoid early labor and Nick isn't recovering (still) from hip surgery, we can walk most places.   We have a bakery and a Food Co-Op that far surpass the options in Eau Claire.  In short, we really are liking it here.

Today is election day and I experienced another perk of living in a small town.  I arrived to vote at 4:15.  I walked in, signed my name (this year I actually had to remember my ward as my neighbors were not the elderly couple working the table), voted, and walked out.  I would have been home by 4:20, but my friend is the Parks and Rec director whose office is at the voting station, so stopped and chatted with her for a few minutes before heading home.  I was still home by 4:30.
