Science Week

A few weeks ago I decided it would be fun to do the celery and colored water experiment with Lilly.  I got her super excited, we went to the grocery store to get celery, and by the time we were home, it wasn't on her radar any more.  On Saturday I was able to convince her to do the experiment.  Nick was at work all day, so I was flying solo with Lilly and wanted non-running around activities.

The original four.  Her hypothesis was yellow would change first.
When she realized we only had a few colors of the rainbow, we needed to make orange and purple.  We made those, then went upstairs for her bath.  But by the time we came back down, the leaves were already changing, so we don't know whose hypothesis was right.

You may notice that the orange is not very full.  Well, that would be because I knocked the glass over and spilled a majority of it.  Luckily the main chair it hit was the chair Lilly sits on, so was covered with a towel.

We had grand plans of taking photos of the celery each day this week.  On Tuesday I took a photo but it isn't uploaded.  Wednesday and Thursday we don't get photos and I am now cozily curled up on the couch and taking a photo is just not going to happen, nor is getting the cord to get the photo uploaded.  Not much has changed but the blue and green have changed the most and even the celery stalks themselves have changed colors along the veins.

On Tuesday Lilly mentioned balloons and wanting some to blow up.  I thought it would be fun to make some balloon rockets.  We also needed some carrots to go with dinner.  Nick and Lilly bundled up, got into the stroller and headed out to get balloons and a few groceries.  While they were out on the walk, I constructed a toilet paper roll, straw, balloon rocket bath with string.  When they got back home we assembled the rocket and had endless fun.  We also added a second balloon, that sucker zoomed.

Thursday night we experimented with a paper towel roll and had a few races between the two.  We'll see what other races and variations we can come up with this weekend.  Or, if the excitement will be long gone tomorrow morning.
