Lilly's Recent Thoughts and Comments

We've started keeping track of things Lilly says more closely because at least once a day she either makes us laugh or astounds us with what she says or how she says it.  Here are a few, interspersed with a few photos from the last few weeks.

The movie theatre is across the street from the library.  We've never taken her (we're not movie theatre people and we haven't let her watch a movie from start to finish yet) but she is becoming more and more intrigued with the movie posters when we park there to go to the library.  I recently realized how sheltered she is in terms of popular culture.  When we pulled into the parking spot she noticed the Spongebob movie poster and said, "Look Mom, that cheese is sad!"

Cooking spaghetti
Nick and I were talking about Pi day (yes, we are that cool).  Lilly asked me, “Is Pi day coming mom?”  I said yes.  Lilly replied, “I like pie.”  Then she went on to inquire about Pi day and Nick attempted to explain to her that Pi is a number and . .. yeah.

Pretending to wash her hands in the sink.
On a drive to Tree Top, Nick and Lilly saw a semi without a trailer.  Lilly first asked if it was broken and Nick let her know it wasn't.  Her next inquiry was if the truck was on its way to the trailer store to buy a new trailer.

Whenever he puts Lilly to bed, Nick's MO is to fall asleep.  Lilly keeps a close eye on him now and will quickly tell him to wake up.  He can't even yawn now without getting yelled at.

Singing "Do you want to build a snowman?"
What a difference a year makes!  Last year at this time was when she first started taking baths in the bathtub, no longer afraid of it.  Still leery for awhile, but became increasingly more confident.  Last week she laid back in the water, ears submerged and everything, sighed and said, "This is the life."

Fishing!
Lilly came home from day care with a string.  A small string that probably came off her sleeping bag.  When we were walking back to the house she saw a stick.  Ala Curious George we had to turn it into a fishing pole.  We spent quite a bit of time fishing that day (the sidewalk was the dock).

One morning Lilly came running over to the kitchen sink so Nick could wash her up after breakfast.  He told her to "watch those hands kiddo, don't touch anything, they're dirty."  She looks down at them, then back at Nick, "Actually, they're not Dad."

We're trying some allergy medicine to see if Lilly has seasonal allergies.  We've long suspected for she'll get a runny nose for weeks but no cough, fever, or other cold symptom.  One morning this week I set her Claritin next to her and went back into the kitchen to pack my lunch.  She turns and says to me, "Mom, my allergy pill has a C on it!"  (I like this one more for the fact that she felt the need to talk so completely, rather than just saying, "look, a C!")

She's hiding.  You can't see her, right?

We've played some "hide-and-seek" and we're looking forward to the day when it is no longer stand in the open or announce where you are hiding and seek.  We played for a long time last weekend, eventually hiding the watering can instead of Lilly, which was a nice change of pace.

Puppy Tutu.
One last one, and my personal favorite.  I wish I would have been home for this one, Nick emailed me at work with this gem:

Lilly: How did you hurt your hip?
Nick: I fell off my bike.
Lilly: Was it in a race?
Nick: (lying to keep her from having a fear of falling off her bike) Sort of.
Lilly: Mom ran in a big huge race, but it was a running race.  She didn't fall.  Maybe you could run in that race?
