I've heard it all along - through my babysitting, education classes in college, conversations with others, childrearing books - children learn through observation and play. The details Lilly picks up on amazes me.
In the picture with the toothbrush container, she is making soup using an immersion blender. She even plugged it in. At times she would tell us to plug our ears because it was going to be loud.
It has been terribly cold here. Terribly. Which means Lilly has been stuck inside for a long time. Sunday it was finally warm enough to head outside for a little bit. Lilly has been wanting to have a parade outside (thank you book Olivia Leads the Parade) and we brought out the drum, shakers, and had a parade through the backyard. This weekend it is doing to hit the mid--thirties, so we will be spending tons of time outside.
Lilly still loves her Baby Julius and plays lovingly with him very often. Especially for a kid who has no attachment to stuffed animals and refuses to have any kind of stuffed animal, blanket, or doll in her bed at night. After Granny Goose at the library kids get a chance to play with the toys on the other side of the room. One of Lilly's favorites is the backpack to carry a doll. Often she has us put a doll in the backpack and then she walks around playing with other toys. At home she has no such toy, so she has started making up her own backpacks for Baby Julius.
Last night Baby Julius was taking a bath in one container and then switched to a different container to go in the hot tub. Lilly took the time to pull the plug from the "drain" in the tub and put a plug in the hot tub.
This past weekend we also had another day at the beach. This time googles were involved, paddle boarding, and lots of other fun.
She saw a folded up piece of cardboard and that became her iPad and I had to draw Grandma and her iPad on the cardboard for her to FaceTime with. There are many other things she imagines these days, in fact she mostly plays imaginary games now. All as Baby Lion of course.
