Update on Running

October 11th is the big day.  The day of the 10K.  As in I will run 6.2 miles.  Ideally without stopping.  Sunday I went for a run on the trail through town and onto the corridor, the gravel path where most of the race happens.  I ran 4.5 miles without stopping!  I know I have never run that far without stopping before.

Tuesdays the group meets to run.  Since school started I've ended up running late and not getting to run with the group but have still done the runs, usually watching them leave as I am pulling into my parking spot.  Tonight it was supposed to be 3.5 miles but I ended up running four because of construction detours.  When I was nearly back to my car my GPS watch (a very fun new toy Nick and I are sharing) said 3.95 miles, so I ran down the block and back a bit to make it an even four.

A realization I had when I did my first four mile run was, just 2.2 miles more and that's the race.  I can do this.  And a cooler realization I had on Sunday after my run - just 1.7 miles to go - I can do this and I have almost a month to get ready for it.

This Sunday is the 5 mile run and the following Sunday 5.5.  Then we taper and don't run any longer distances until race day.  I am so glad I did the running group - and am already planning on joining again next year and training to do the 10K again.  And then maybe two years from now . . . the half-marathon?
