Don's Pumpkin Patch

As we pulled out of the driveway leaving Don's Pumpkin Patch today I remembered that we have gone to this pumpkin patch for every year of Lilly's life.  A fun tradition that I didn't even really realize was a tradition.

It is a little early for real pumpkin patch season but I was itching to get out of the house today and go somewhere, but also did not want to travel in the car for long at all.  So a trip to Duluth was out of the picture, Don's was open, so we decided to head there after Lilly's nap.  We told her we were going to go on an adventure after her nap and she woke up talking about going on an adventure.

Lilly checked out the chickens, ran up to the pumpkins, ran around looking at all the different pumpkins, and picking up some of them.  She picked one out - wanted a clean one until we told her it was okay to have some dirt on it, we'd wash it when we got home.  Then she picked up the dirtiest pumpkin in the bunch.  We were able to direct her toward a cleaner one.

After posing for this picture, Lilly wanted to take my picture.  And then more pictures.

After she picked out her pumpkin and Nick picked out some delicata squash, we headed into the corn maze - a new part of our tradition.  The goal was to find the six tokens by the six scarecrows.  By the time we were wrapping up our time in the corn maze Lilly was asking where the next "scare crokens" were - a nice combo of scarecrow and tokens.

Picking out a token by the scarecrow.

We were not only successful in finding the six different scarecrows, but we also found out way out of the maze.  The six tokens were exchanged for candy and all three of us willingly took candy.

After we finished up at Don's, we headed to the elementary school playground for her to run around and play.  We brought her tricycle and bike along but she wasn't interested in them.  I need to do some digging around to figure out why the bouncy spring rides are completely buried under the rocks, so they don't move at all.  Needless to say they didn't hold her attention for very long.

When we pulled into the driveway at home, Lilly asked if she could go upstairs please.  I asked why she wanted to go upstairs and her response, "read some books and go to sleep."  It was only a little after five, so not nearly close enough to bedtime to allow her to go upstairs to bed.  We went inside, gave her dinner and she was reinvigorated.  Stay tuned for some Lilly versions of Goldilocks and The Three Little Pigs.

One thing I did manage to accomplish today was to finally finish this sweater.  The sweater itself has been done for at least a month, but I had yet to sew buttons on it.  Originally the sweater was for Lilly, but it is too small, so I am giving it to her friend Alma.  Hopefully she won't mind the handful of mistakes that are glaringly obvious to me.
