Running and Yankin' Doodle

I am in the fourth week of my training for the 10K.  It has been great so far.  I may not be saying that tonight after I have to do a tempo run - which basically means run harder and faster than I ever care to - for TWO MILES.  After our first group meeting I was feeling so motivated I was even crazily thinking - "I could train for the half-marathon" but quickly realized that was crazy talk.  A 10K is a perfect challenge for me.  School is starting in a few weeks and to fit work and training in will be enough of a challenge, I don't need to add a bajillion extra miles in the mix either.

The group gathers on Tuesdays and we meet with the coach and talk a bit, then all head off on our run, everyone running at her own pace (there are only two men in the group - and a total of 36 people!).  I've had some nice conversations with a woman who owns one of my favorite stores in town, Solstice Outdoors, and talked with a few other people.  For me starting up conversations with strangers and sustaining them is a challenge, so not only am I becoming a runner with this adventure, I am also pushing myself to be more of an extrovert.  The other days we run are Thursdays (and we start interval work Thursday) and Sundays (long runs).  Mondays we are supposed to do strength training and Wednesday/Saturday cross training (swimming, biking, walking).  All in all, I am really happy with how things are going.  And since July 15th I have run 17.5 miles!

And now for the real reason anyone reads the blog - an update on Lilly.  Here's video of her at the park singing Yankee Doodle.
