Friday I went for a run with Lilly in the jogging stroller (with a flat tire - note to self, fix this before running with her again) and Lilly wanted some tennis shoes. In our giant bin of hand-me-down clothes there were lots and lots of shoes. One pair of tennis shoes did not make it out of the bin because they have laces. I refuse to put shoes with laces on a toddler. However, Lilly's determination to have tennis shoes (and my desire to get my run out of the way) made me relent and pull the shoes out. These were a HUGE hit and were worn the rest of the day, worn on Saturday, and on Sunday. I decided Lilly was going to get new tennis shoes, with velcro. Added to Monday's agenda - watch the garbage man and buy shoes. And we did so much more!
Lilly woke up early today (6:45, so not really early for a toddler, but early for our little tyke) and while playing with Play-Doh we talked about what we were going to do for the day. She wanted to go right then to get her new shoes, but we had time to kill before the Shoe Shack opened. Dress up sounded like a good way to spend the time to Lilly, so that's what she did. She started in this ensemble and then tried on everything in her dress up bin.
We also did FaceTime with my parents during the dress up extravaganza, which then turned into a marching band parade. Lilly ordered my parents to cover their ears while we marched. By the time we were done talking with them, it was a little after nine. So we were rushing to get out the door to buy tennis shoes before the garbage man came. Then Lilly saw her Plasma Car in the garage, and wanted to ride that. Not in that much of a hurry, I said sure. Which is a good thing because shortly after she started riding, I heard the garbage truck. It would have been a tragedy if we missed the garbage man.
And as the garbage man was traveling up the alley, we heard something else. The street sweeper. What a lucky day!!! So we rushed to the front of the house to watch the street sweeper.
We hopped in the car to "go into town" (Lilly's phrasing, I tried to tell her that we live in town, but nope, we were still going into town). Found great parking right outside the shoe store and headed in. The little kid shoes are hanging above the cash register, Lilly quickly picked out the tennis shoes she wanted. I haven't snapped a great photo of her in them yet, but here's a quick view:
They are quite the flashy shoes. Everyone we've seen today has been wickedly impressed with these shoes. They are the coolest shoes I think I've ever seen. And they were on sale, so double bonus.
On our way back to the car, we ran into our friends Sara and Braden, who were on their way to Granny Goose story time at the library. Lilly adores Granny Goose. Tuesday is our usual Granny Goose day, but we made an exception and went on Monday. Lilly did great, minus one time of wandering back toward me, unzipping her sweatshirt (under which she had nothing on). We had a quick talk about staying dressed in public, and back to listening to the stories.
We ran a few more errands, then home for lunch and a nap. In the afternoon a babysitter came over to meet Lilly, she's going to babysit tomorrow while I go to my first running class and Nick goes to a stand up paddle board class. Then to Nick's work to see Nick and the snake. The snake was out and the gecko was pretty far out of the log too. On our way out we ran into other friends who we rarely see, so got a chance to catch up with them. Overall, it was a delightful day.
(And yes, I notice that Lilly is wearing a helmet in all but one of these photos. Once she gets it on to ride her bike, trike, plasma car, or ride in the bike trailer, she likes to keep it on. Lilly wore her helmet when the babysitter was over and showed her her plasma car. It stayed on while we biked to Nick's work and while we were there. And then when we got home. It was still on when dad came home. And while I went to the grocery store. At some point while I was gone, the helmet came off.)
