Our garden was off to a late start and we still have not eaten anything but a few raspberries and some basil. Things are finally starting to take off though (the weeds especially) and maybe by the end of August we'll have some produce to enjoy.
Here is a shot of one of the tomato plants - fun heirloom purple tomatoes, a squash I did not plant but is growing out of the compost mixed with sunflowers, potatoes and peas/beans.
In this collection you can see our peppers, which I am so proud of, even though all I did was stick them in the ground. I never get peppers and this year we have five coming in. FIVE. I almost gave up on peppers but love them so much (and they are pricey at the store) that I had to give it one more year. Bottom row are the broccoli plants. All of which are thriving but only a few are starting to actually produce broccoli instead of giant leaves.
Finally, you can see the lilies and cucumbers. The plants around are potentially squash (and this one could be too, I don't remember). I have been patiently waiting for the lilies to bloom. The other plants are seriously taking their sweet time to show up! As for the cucumber/squash: The plants I bought from our FFA chapter (best fundraiser ever - they grow plants in the green house at school for the horticulture class and sell them for super cheap and they've always done really well for us). However, they were labeled cucumbers but look an awful lot like squash. We'll see what happens when fruit starts to develop. We may end up having a ton of squash.
Other items in our garden not photographed include: yellow onions, basil, delicata squash, radishes, jalepeno peppers (currently totally shaded by tomatoes and broccoli), and raspberries. In pots are two more pepper plants and carrots. I dug up one potato plant that was growing in a pot last night to find two small potatoes and a handful of really tiny potatoes. The plant wasn't getting any bigger, so I figured it was done. I replaced the potato with carrots, but Lilly attacked the pot, so we'll see if those turn out.
