Garbage Truck

Lilly chasing the street sweeper down the street.

Lilly gets excited when she sees big trucks.  We're keeping a chart of when we see the street sweeper (more for me, actually, because I can't believe how often the streets are swept here in Ashland) and every Monday we wait in the alley for the garbage truck to come.  In January, Ashland switched to a new trash collecting company that has the trucks that have the pneumatic arms that pick up the trash cans and dumps them.  Which, luckily for Lilly, means they have to come down the alley twice to get the cans on both sides.

Nick and Lilly waiting for the garbage truck to come back down the alley.

While Nick and Lilly watched the garbage truck, I was cleaning up frantically inside before our company came for lunch (friends from grad school, great fun to catch up).  Soon I hear Lilly sobbing and see Nick carrying her back into the house.  The issue - she wanted her dirty diapers back.  Yup.  Nick said as the garbage truck pulled away she started crying, "I want my dirty diapers back!" I reassured her she will make plenty more.

  1. Love t! Ayla and Caleb LOVE garbage day, too. It's always a big hit to run out and wave to the garbage men, who are the same every week, and who eagerly wave back at them. It is good motivation for me to make sure Caleb is in pants by 8:00AM, which is not often the case...
