Yay!! School is out for the summer! It felt kinda weird going to school for one day this week and having Lilly go to day care for one day, but such is the life when one has 122338535 snow and cold days during the year. The morning was a district-wide community service day. I walked nearly five miles with a few students picking up trash. Other groups painted bleachers, picked up trash at parks, cleaned up parking lots, and did work at the golf course. I think this was a better use of our time than having us just play games or show movies in our classroom. Two of the girls in my group said to me, "I'd just feel guilty skipping out on community service." Not a bad couple of kids to spend the morning with. The afternoon was movies in the auditorium, an intense dodgeball tournament in the gym, and other miscellaneous activities. I spent the afternoon finishing up grading and packing up my room for the summer.
After picking up Lilly from her last day at day care for the summer (we pay a holding fee to keep her spot), we went out to dinner. After dinner we went to throw rocks in the lake. First though, we had to stop and watch the car go through the car wash.
Lilly wasn't interested in throwing rocks once we got to the beach. There was some sort of fitness class that was wrapping up their workouts and she was much more interested in what they were doing.
She took a little rest and laughed with dad:
Part of their work out was running up and down this giant flight of stairs. So Lilly wanted to do it too. We made her wait until they were done (can you imagine trying to get in a good workout and having a two-year-old climbing the stairs in front of you - so frustrating!) but then the two of us headed up and then back down the stairs. At first she was very upset because I was walking with her. She's very independent right now (note - understatement) but a few steps after telling me I couldn't go with her she asked me to carry her. Hah, fat chance kid. But she walked the entire flight up and down, even stopping to hang a few times from the railing on the way down.

| And yes, she's wearing her hockey PJs. |

While I am a little nervous how my extroverted daughter is going to do just the two of us all summer (and how I will do just the two of us!) I am looking forward to spending some quality time with Lilly. No rest for the wicked though - we start parent/child swimming lessons tomorrow and Wiggles and Giggles on Wednesday evening (a toddler gymnastics class).
Nick wanted to watch a bit more of Burn Notice (and hey, it is summer vacation, so why not stay up a bit later?), so I am going to post a couple of pictures from the weekend.
Lilly let me braid her hair for the first time on Saturday. Nick complimented me on a job well done and told me it was "impressive." At first I just thought he was being overly generous, but when I looked back and realized I worked on the braids in three different rooms and braided while we were walking through the rooms, I accepted the compliment.
We headed over to her friend Alma's house (and her parents are our friends) for dinner. It was a really nice evening with delicious food and great company. Here's all the big kids chasing Lilly down the block. Lilly probably ran up and down their block 10 times. When the kids came back inside, Lilly sent me inside to "go get kids." She absolutely loves watching and playing with bigger kids.
