Schools in Minnesota have all been closed for Monday due to the predicted cold weather. Many schools in Wisconsin have also closed. Sunday night the low is expected to be -21, not including winds. No word about schools in Ashland closing on Monday and I am being pessimistic and believing I have school on Monday. Which is fine, since I did just get done with a twelve-day break.
Wednesday we took a trip to the aquarium in Duluth in the afternoon after Lilly's nap. It was cold then, we knew it was going to be cold all week and well into next week, so we took our last day of vacation and headed to the aquarium. We were worried about how busy the place would be - it was a holiday (so more people on vacation, so more people out, in the afternoon/evening so more people there) but it was perfect. Just a handful of people (including a nice young teenager who gave Lilly a nickel to put in the cyclone change donation collection thing), so we didn't have to wait for anything and Lilly could run from aquarium to aquarium and not bother other people. The only bummer was the young man who was playing with the boats and locks down on the lower level. He played forever at the only spot Lilly can really reach - and wouldn't share and wouldn't let any boats go through his lock. But we were able to find places for her to place some boats, she liked running back and forth over the bridge to collect more boats, and it helped us get her out of there sooner.
Saturday was supposed to have a high of 23 when I checked earlier in the week. It was actually warmer than that but at 5:45 AM. It was all downhill from there. Our original plan was to bring her out in the morning but plans went awry (as they usually do) and it didn't happen. We played inside all morning instead.
Last night we received a few inches of snow, so I went out and shoveled during her nap. It didn't feel super cold - not too windy, so I felt Lilly could spend about five minutes outside and not feel ill-effects.

The first two photos are of the rubble that Tim moved from the end of the driveway into our yard. The final photo is the snow pile on our back deck. Not quite sure what the weight capacity of our deck is, so I spent a little bit of time shoveling snow from the deck into the yard. Then I came in, worked on making some delicious soft pretzels, and a few minutes later Lilly woke up. Here are some photos from the five minutes Lilly and I spent outside while the pretzels were baking in the oven.

| The second photo is poorly colored but it gives a sense of the height of the bank of snow on the edge of our driveway. |
