I should be grading papers right now but am still lacking in motivation from vacation. On Monday and Tuesday Lilly went to Tree Top while I went into school and did some grading and working on my Professional Development Plan (PDP). That put me in a foul mood (it is a giant hoop I have to jump through to renew my teaching certification in WI). So I swore off grading while we were down in Eau Claire. Plus, I had the Read More than Mrs. Robertson Reading Challenge on my plate, which meant my evenings needed to be spent reading, not grading papers. I ended up reading about 400 pages and so far I am in third place. And two students have turned in their sheets . . .
On a positive note, on Tuesday I went to a Pilates class in the morning and then Nick and I went out to lunch together. No rushing back to make sure Lilly is fine, just the two of us enjoying a delicious meal and conversation. It was fantastic.
Thursday morning I did the Turkey Trot. My mom walked with some friends, Sam's girlfriend Suzie did the race and Sam ran the race illegally. While we were running the two mile and came across Nick's cousins. So, we finished up the race with them.
We had dinner at Nick's parents' house on Thursday with Sam and Suzie, Ben, Becky, Nole, Cally and Owen, and my parents. I didn't snap any pictures, but Lilly had fun playing with her cousins, although she was very overwhelmed at times by the crowds. The big realization was that Lilly's hockey infatuation was larger than we originally anticipated - the girl is obsessed. Nick's parents have a table-top hockey game and Lilly was content to watch us play hockey. And frequently asked us to play so she could watch.
On Saturday my extended family gathered together and played our traditional game of Pooh Sticks. Lilly wasn't interested, so spent her time at the swings with Nick. When I joined them I was required to swing as well. Each time I tried to get off the swing, Lilly would point at the swing and say, "Mama?" repeatedly until I would go back to swinging.
My mom also put together a fun family trivia game so she could practice using the SMART Response software. It was pretty fun and perhaps more fun because I won (well, tied with my aunt Julie). Overall it was a delightful Thanksgiving with family. Three weeks to go until Christmas vacation.
On Sunday afternoon we shoveled the driveway with Lilly's new shovel and Lilly wore these fancy wings:
Now I have successfully used up all my grading time and now it is time for bed!
