Here it is, Sunday night. Nick is diligently sitting in front of Mythbusters grading lab reports. I should be also be grading. But, we have some great pictures from this weekend that just need to be shared. So, that is what I am going to do instead.
It was a cold weekend up here in Ashland. Friday night brought dress up fun. But I think you need to get through the entire post before you can see these photos. I'm not saying they are some of the best Lilly pictures ever, but I did share them with Katie via email and she called me to talk about them.
Saturday with highs in the negatives, we needed to do something to get Lilly out of the house, but not have her out in the frigid temperatures. In the morning we drove to Duluth and went to the aquarium again. In our rush out of the house I forgot the camera (and my bagel, bummer!) but we had limited time to get there and return home, so no turning around for it. Lilly is just so much fun to watch there. Each new tank brings new excitement and shouts of, "ooh!" and "big fish!" and "woah!".
One reason we were in a time crunch is Lilly does not really nap in the car. It takes her forever to fall asleep in the car and if we need her to take a longer nap, we usually can't because she wakes up when we get home and will maybe rest for a bit longer in her room, but no quality napping happens. If she napped well at day care, maybe we could risk a cruddy weekend nap, but the fact that she only sleeps for an hour at day care (my girl, the last to fall asleep and the first to wake up) means that weekend naps are critical. After her nap though . . . hockey!!
I've mentioned this in an earlier post, but Lilly is incredibly obsessed with the sport of hockey. We avert meltdowns by suggesting we play hockey (spatulas, balls, and laundry baskets) and Lilly will chant "hockey" at random times. When she woke up from her nap, I asked her if she wanted to go see hockey, to which I received an excited "yes!".
The game was 1/3 of the way finished when we got there, with Northland losing 0-3. Lilly patiently waited the eight minutes or so before the second period started and was really excited when the players came out of thestink hole locker room. By the end of the game, Lilly was still interested but was spending more time walking along the bleachers. I'm glad no one was watching us while we did this, for I smacked my head on the steel bars supporting the roof because I was paying more attention to Lilly's steps on the bleachers. As we walked back to the car at the end of the game (Northland lost, 1-5), Lilly was sad and kept asking for "more hockey".
During her nap I ran some errands and then started a batch of cookies. Then when Nick came home from work, we tagged team and made another batch. Batch number one is to donate to the Northland College Library as they keep the library open late during finals week and provide snacks for the kiddos. The second batch are thank you cookies for the man that paddled for me during the race in August (better late than never!) and the teachers who let us use their classroom for a Link Crew activity.
And now, the photos you have been waiting for. I cannot remember why we needed to distract her and get involved with the dress up clothes, but I do remember that Nick was still eating dinner and that it was done to distract her from something. And wow. Quite the outfit.
Then she added the boots:
Rushing back to see the photos (she was saying "cheese" for most of these). That would be yogurt on her pants, by the way.
Then mom got the fire hat and the sunglasses. Lilly got the monkey hat and new sunglasses.
And then Lilly took the hat back . . .
Oh, Lilly.

It was a fun day but we were looking forward to Sunday, when we didn't have any plans. Although were a little nervous for how Lilly would do with a day stuck inside. She did surprisingly well!
And most of the success of the day goes to Nick's creativity. Here are some photos from the day:

She also played with her magnets. She's doing more and more imaginative play. One magnet was of a basket of apples. Lilly would take the apples and feed them to the different animal magnets saying, "yum, yum, yum."
| Yes, in this photo she is wearing a vest on top of her sweatshirt. |

| Chocolate Chip. Not exactly holiday cookies, but delicious. |
