After seeing my friend Emily's blog and the amazing owl costumes she made her kids for Halloween, I was inspired to make my own daughter an owl hat of her own. Lilly is 20 months old and I haven't really knit her anything. I've knit a few other things, but quite honestly I haven't made much of anything since Lilly was born.
Before Lilly was born, a few of my friends and I would gather on Saturday or Sunday mornings and craft. Since Lilly was born, the group fell a part a little bit until my friend Katie made sure it started happening again. Luckily for me, Katie sends out the emails, hosts (we used to take turns), and reminds us how great it is to gather and craft. A few Saturdays ago I posted every picture I had of Lilly on Shutterfly (which I started to slack on after I started blogging) and the net time we gathered, I started knitting an owl hat for Lilly. I very intelligently used big needles and chunky yarn and had 2/3rds of the hat knit after 90 minutes. A week later after getting some felt and embroidery floss from Katie, I finished it. Lilly loves it but . . . I do not have a picture of her in it, minus one on my phone.
My friend Paula is expecting twin girls within the next two months. Today her science department colleagues had a little baby shower for her and her husband. It was a nice little party and I used my recent discovery of how quickly I can throw a hat together using big needles and big yarn to make two more owl hats.
The results of my efforts are here (Lilly's is the bottom one, Paula will have to have babies with different sized heads if she wants them to wear them at the same time):

Woo for owls! :) Thanks for the costume compliment - they were a fun project (and I'm glad Halloween only comes around once a year).
ReplyDeleteSuper cute hats! Can't wait to see a picture of Lilly in one. That's funny that you haven't done much knitting in so long and then you busted out THREE hats. My crafting goes in spurts, too, although knitting hasn't happened in roughly six years...
