Fifteen Months

Now that school is officially done, I can get around to writing this post.

May 24th marked Lilly's 15 month on the planet.  June 3rd marked the doctor's appointment, which was filled with screams, tears, and some crazy yoga/dance moves.

Her stats from the appointment:
Head Circumference - 19" - off the charts
Height - 32 1/4" - between 90 and 95th percentile
Weight - 24 lbs 4 oz - she's climbing up on this one, probably around the 60th percentile
Weight for Length - 50th percentile

Other things to note:

She's still working on those canine teeth.  She's almost 15.5 months as I write this and we can just see the tops of them.  The girl is this crazy combination of slow teether but way ahead on number of teeth.  The nurse was impressed with the number of chompers this little girl has.  We have suspicions about those molars coming in still too.  I'd be fine with all those teeth just coming in and being done with it all in the next month or two.

Imaginary games - she's starting to pretend more, which is really fun to see.  This past weekend she had a spoon and took some stacking bowls.  She picked one up, pretended to stir something, then handed it to us to try.  Not sure if this was a game at day care, the "cooking class" she went to a few times (they made lemonade and applesauce I think), observations of us making dinner, or more than likely a combination of all the above, but fun to see.

Dancing - the girl has some moves.  Of course, they are always too short lived to get recorded.  We're working on the "Itsy Bitsy Spider" and she's really close to getting that one down.  I am hoping that Nick will be able to tape her from somewhere she doesn't notice so we can get it to share with the five of you that read the blog.

Words - the list continues to grow.  This past week she finally added some helpful ones, "more" and "all done."  Of course, we have signs for these ones, so not totally helpful.  More is also used for "hey, that bag of chips looks good, can I have some?"  Words she has that I can think of off the top of my head: button, bird, bike, ball (you may correctly guess here these are all pretty much the same word), dog, grass, pretty (I have not heard this one but Nick's mom has), milk, mama and da (although rarely used), book, and others but I can't think of them right now.

Food - she will eat bananas now!  Depending on the day of course, but one day she even ate half a banana.  Most food she will eat or at least try, peas and soybeans are up there on her list of favorites.  She's done nursing, we started weaning her slowly at a year (pumping at work was just getting old, tiring, and getting me further and further behind at work) and she took to cow's milk no problem at all.  Around 14 months is when she just decided she was done (she was just nursing before bed), which is how I wanted to end and I was ready to be done at this point too.  Which means Nick and I now take turns putting her down and doing dishes!  One night I went for a bike ride in the evening, Lilly was awake when I left the house and sound asleep in her crib when I got home!

Speaking of sleeping - around Mother's day we had a glorious full week of her sleeping through the night every night.  She will often cry out for a minute or two, sometimes a bit more but then get herself back to sleep.  Some nights she'd wake up between 1:30-4:30 needing a bottle, but then go right back to sleep.  Then, we had a few rough weeks.  But, knock on wood, things seem to be going back to the either up just once or not at all path.  We were in Eau Claire this past weekend (exciting post on that adventure to follow) and she slept through the night - in her pack and play - which is no small feat.  We've found cutting back on the milk she gets during the day and having a stuffed animal in her crib with her seems to help (she's not really attached to any one particular one, just any small animal seems to help). Naps at home range from 1.5 hours to 3, naps at day care - the record nap was 1.5 hours, average was 50 minutes.

Finally, Baths - the girl won't take them.  Has an absolute meltdown if we even try - or even if she's in the same room as a bathtub with water running.  We've tried different tricks - crayons in the tub but no water (would color on the outside of the tub, tried putting her in with me, meltdown), seeing others in the tub having a fun time (meltdown that took her 5 minutes to recover from - we didn't even try to put her in the water), hearing the shower run - meltdown.  How do we get her clean you ask?  Well, she LOVES playing with water.  The kitchen sink (don't even try and put her in the sink however), the bathroom sink, the garden house, buckets of water - all endless sources of enjoyment.  So, we have been putting a warm bucket of soapy water outside for her with a rag in it and she'll play with that and splash water on herself.  She's even stuck her head in the water of the garden hose.  But an actual tub - forget it.  Now that the weather is finally warming up, we are going to try a kiddie pool in the backyard.

Okay, that is all the reading I will make you do.  What you really come here for - the pictures of Lilly.  I've tried to stick to photos from before she was 15 months or just at 15 months.  I've plans for a Memorial Day Weekend Post and an Eau Claire post, both with fabulous Lilly photos that my dad and brother took.

Enjoy!

Nick and Lilly at the end of Hougton Falls Trail

We hiked on Mother's Day (last year too).
There was still snow on the trail this year.

One of Lilly's tricks - stacking.

Nana points out buds on the trees to Lilly.

I adore this photo (thanks dad!)
My question to Lilly - so you can sleep in this position,
but you can't make it through the night? (notice her lower lip
is being pulled down by the crib slat)

  1. That picture from your dad is precious.

I bet she slept through the night as a Mother's Day gift to you, so you can expect that same thing again around Father's Day.

  2. I hope I'm counted in the five who read this. :) And although I absolutely LOVE the pictures of you guys, I actually love the writing more.

Question on Lilly going to sleep: Does she fall asleep with a bottle, with rocking/snuggling, or alone in her crib? We're having difficulty with naps and bedtime with Caleb wanting either to nurse to sleep or just wander around downstairs until he tuckers out on the floor somewhere.
