Finding a Balance

A quick post for I have not posted in a long time.

As an English teacher, I often struggle to keep up with grading.  Reading essays is time consuming work.  It is work that ebbs and flows - at times there are 120 papers to grade, other times students are busy crafting their work, there is little to no grading to be done.  With Lilly in the picture, I never do any school work from 4:00-8:00 or so, whenever we manage to get her down.  I am quite happy with this plan, but it does mean I have lost a few hours of work time that I used to have, staying at school until 5 or even later sometimes.  In years past I would struggle to keep up with grading and I now wonder what it was I did with my time.

It is the time of year where I am drowning in research papers.  I am down to 26 research papers but each one can take anywhere from 15-35 minutes depending on how well the papers are written.  After my first year in college when I made the decision to switch from elementary education to becoming a high school English teacher, my dad said to me, "you'll have a lot of grading to do".  He wasn't lying.

Here are a few pictures of Lilly from today - she got some new boots and was trying out her bicycle helmet . . .

Lilly really enjoys playing "dress up" and wearing hats, other people's clothing, etc.  She went upstairs to get ready for bed with her sunhat on and wore it until I put her in her crib, fast asleep.

Back to grading . . . .

  1. "In years past I would struggle to keep up with grading and I now wonder what it was I did with my time." I think this about all kinds of things (obviously not grading anymore)...
