Thirteen and a Half Months

I meant to write a posting around Lilly's birthday with all her tricks and stats, but that did not happen.  So I am going to squeeze it in now before she gets too close to 14 months.

Lilly on March 17th, 2013

At her one-year well baby visit, these were her stats:

Weight: a bit above the 50th percentile at 21.something pounds
Head Circumference: between 90 and 95th percentile at 18.5 inches
Length: she's shot off the growth chart again at 31.25 inches
A new statistic for this visit - weight for length: 25th percentile (they have her earlier statistics for this one, 9 months was the first time she even hit the chart. At three and six months she wasn't even in the 5th percentile)

We do love our orange on a toothpick, or as her Uncle Ben said, our Lollypop (I like this, since we could call her Lillypop!)

Enjoying blackberries on her birthday
Tricks:
  • Walking - she's not there yet.  Not really interested in it either.  She will stand up on her own, and now she will start to move from one place to another by walking if she's standing.  We think she's topped 10 or so steps as a record.  She started trying right around her first birthday, but then got an ear infection and stopped trying for a few weeks.
  • Talking - on Tuesday the 2nd we called her first word, dog.  I took her for a walk and she got super excited and pointed to a dog and said "do."  That night while brushing her teeth and looking out the window a woman walked by walking two dogs and the same thing - super excited, pointed out the window and said "do!"  Other words now are ball, boom, vroom, hop and bop (light).  If you give her a bunny cracker (like a Goldfish cracker) she will make it hop on her tray and say "hop hop hop."  She will do this with her stuffed bunnies too.
  • Signing - Lilly's getting pretty good with baby signs, which has been a tremendous relief.  She, of course, has her own versions of them but we understand what she is saying, which makes life easier.  Words she signs are more, all done, water, book, and please.  I think frantically waving her hands is her sign for "take me outside now!"  We've tried to get her to sign milk but that one just isn't happening.
  • Eating - she is eating fresh fruit now, especially clementines and pineapples.  She will still accuse you of poisoning her if you try and give her banana though.  Overall she's a great eater, at least trying things we put in front of her.
  • Stacking - last week she has also started stacking towers, rather than just knocking down towers we built.  Her first tower was two cans of black beans she took out of the grocery bag.  Totally on her own.
Climbing into things is also something she enjoys.
Also, she loves scarves. (2/23/13)

  • Light switches - the girl loves them and light fixtures.  Every time she sees a light she points at it. We debated as to whether or not "bop" counted as her first word, since it is her word for lights.  Nick brought Lilly in to see me at work last Friday and we were standing by the light switch in a colleague's classroom.  Lilly just reached out and turned off the lights.  The students were pretty amused.  If she sees a light switch, I would say 80% of the time she has to flip it.
  • Climbing - this is much more her forte and she spends much more of her energy figuring out how to scale things than to walk from place to place.
Must reach that dangling thing no matter how dangerous it might be . . .
  • Teeth - all four molars and eight front teeth are in.  Currently her canines are coming in.  I also am afraid that her final molars are also coming in.  We're pretty sure she's been teething non-stop since the last week of July.  Luckily for us she isn't cranky about it, just chews on everything, including her own hands.

Best tower ever.
  • Sleeping - she's taking some longer naps at day care, which is great.  Her morning nap is between an hour and an hour forty-five at home and a late afternoon nap around thirty to forty-five minutes.  At night she's given us a few full nights and is only up once for a quick feeding if she does wake up.  It is amazing how helpful a few nights of solid sleep can be!
  • Extrovert - Lilly shows us regularly that she may just turn out to be an extrovert.  She is an intense people watcher and is thrilled to pieces when we have company, loves watching the kids at day care or any where else we go.  Nick brought her to Wee Yoga when our day care provider was sick and he said she was in pig heaven just sitting in his lap, watching all the kids.  No wonder she naps so well on weekends - she's bored with us!!
