I am sure my friend Emily is reading this post and shaking her head at me. She's probably thinking, "Quit your whining! In Alaska we used to throw snowballs at our teachers on the last day of school!" But, I did not grow up in Alaska. I grew up in Wisconsin. We'd occasionally have to trick-or-treat in our snowsuits so no one really got to see our cool costumes. In Wisconsin you can count on that late March snowstorm. But today is April 18th. The month is well over halfway done. Winter Storm Yogi, please go away.
Nick loves to snow blow, so I lovingly let him have that responsibility. However, Nick is away at a conference in the Twin Cities. So, with Lilly down for the night, I went out and shoveled the back walkway so there wouldn't be so much to shovel in the morning. WOW. That is some wet, heavy snow. Weather.com estimates we have received 6.6 inches in the last 24 hours. I finished shoveling the back sidewalk and took a look at the driveway. YIKES! Because the snow is so wet and heavy it is quickly falling off of the garage roof. This is what I saw . . .
a good two foot pile of snow in front of the garage doors. With Lilly still sleeping away, I spent another 25 minutes shoveling out the half with the car behind it. I also shoveled that bottom of the driveway so when the plow comes through in the morning, perhaps my pile won't be quite so painful.
(The worst part of this snow storm is the timing. I really think there is going to be school tomorrow and I am going to have to figure out how to shovel the end of the driveway so Lilly and I can get out of the house and get to work on time. Either Nick can no longer go to conferences in April, or I need to learn how to use the snow blower. Shoveling that heavy wet snow was not fun and I am not looking forward to doing it again in the morning!)

Yes, I actually am shaking my head. But it is because I'm in shorts and a t-shirt and have pretty muched moved into flip flops for the next many months and am contemplating boxing up my jeans and long sleeves. I have laundry needing folding and I know there will be a new pile: swim suits. How the heck are you getting snow right now? Bummer! That is, in fact, quite ridiculous. (The other day on Skype my mom showed Ayla my dad plowing our driveway. Don't miss it. At Christmas I do. In April...not AT ALL.) :)
ReplyDeleteI miss you, Megan!
