Nine and Ten Months

That grading - FINALLY done!  Scores are entered into the grade book, papers passed back to students and are now in my recycling bin . . . (I seem to recall always bringing papers home to show my parents - do kids do this any more?  I actually have to tell my students to read the comments I put on their papers.  Depressing.)  All I have waiting for me to grade tonight is a smattering of late work.  No more than thirty minutes worth of work and all grading that can be done in front of the TV.  So as I wait for Nick to finish his nightly dose of dishes, I thought I'd start a blog post about Lilly at 9 and 10 months of age.  I'm going to combine it into one because I can't remember everything.  Or really, anything.

I took Lilly to the park the day before Winter Storm Caesar attacked us (12/14/12).
Or, wait, didn't really come at all.  What I love about this
picture is how she is looking up at the swing.
Here are some stats regarding Little Miss Lilly:

*At her nine-month well-baby visit, she was 19 pounds (50th percentile), 29.75 inches (90th percentile), and her head was just giant.  I can't remember it, but it was up there in the percentile too.  Her doctor had to chase her around the exam room to listen to her heart and lungs, or do anything.  The doctor said she's pretty far ahead in terms of her mobility, pulling herself up on stuff and moving around.  She's growing great, healthy, interactive, and off to a great start.  My favorite part of this visit - no shots!

*In terms of teeth, at nine months she had four on top and two on the bottom.  We swore that the bottom two outer incisors were coming in, but they just never seemed to appear.  At ten months, they were finally starting to come in.  As of today, January 3, 2013, she has three on the bottom and four on the top.  The right lower outer incisor is there, but still hasn't cut through yet.

*Ah, sleep.  She's really starting to take at least one good 1.5 hour or so nap for us and at day care.  At day care she'll even pull 2 hour naps, but those rarely happen.  There will be another 45 minute or so nap in there, and sometimes a quick nap before dinner.  She's quite good at calming herself down when she cries out at night, sometimes needing us to rescue her from the corner of her crib, her head is often rammed in there.  She crawls quite a bit in her sleep.  Her sleeping position is hands under her forehead, butt up in the air, knees tucked under her.  She's ready to go if she ever needs to make a speedy exit.  She goes to bed between 7-8 and I usually nurse her between 10:30-11:30.   Then who knows what the night will bring.  Some nights we've not had her wake up until morning (those are some remarkable nights!) where other nights it seems like she wakes up for 3000 more feedings.  If I were to average it all out, I'd say she has 2 night feedings yet.  Our plan is to start trying to get her down to just one at night starting next week.  Wish us luck!!

*As of today, here are a list of her tricks she's been developing the last two months:
-Clapping spontaneously has evolved into Patty Cake - say "patty cake" to Lilly and she'll start clapping (new at Christmas break)
-"SO Big!" this one developed the week before Christmas.  By the middle of vacation she would initiate the game and keep her hands up until someone either said "so big" or put his/her hands up in the air too
-Dancing.  I am trying sooooo hard to get a video of this.  Unfortunately, the best dance move (swaying and moving her hands in the air) happens for only a brief second.  This again developed over the vacation due to one of the most annoying toys, which of course, happens to be her favorite.  I will get video to you, I promise.  It is my favorite new trick by far.
-Interest in music.  Our day care Meghan took her to the elementary school music concert.  Apparently Lilly just loved it, and according to a different friend of ours, clapping along to the beat.  She also crawls over to the piano at day care and plays pounds on that.  Each time Meghan pulls her away, she just crawls right back to it.  Lilly also loves playing the keyboard at my parents' house.

-She can stand independently for upwards of 5-7 seconds.  The best performances are when she doesn't actually realize she's standing, but when she has pulled herself up on something and lets go with both hands to clap or bang furiously on the couch, or hold on to some sort of object.  This one has been going on for some time.
-Walking using our hands is improving daily.  She's actually lost interest in her scooter (Subaru), I think because she can move around so much faster with us.  Her legs are not stable enough or strong enough to get her walking on her own, and I am so glad my prediction for when she'd walk was wrong.  I'm fine waiting a long time for her to start walking.
-Peek-a-boo - she both laughs when we play with her and she will hide herself.  I will post video of this later.  This game especially happens in the car.
-Listening to books has also improved, over the break she started turning pages for us and even indicating she wants us to read the book again.  She particularly enjoys Brown Bear, Brown Bear.

I am sure there are more things I should write down, document, etc but Nick has been done with the dishes for awhile now and is probably waiting patiently for me to start his physical therapy while we watch TV.  I'll just post a few pictures here from the last few months.  I am hoping my brother will send me some of the great photos he got of Lilly's first Christmas.

Lilly loves the vacuum cleaner.  She'll crawl up our entire flight up stairs
to see it and explore every part of it.

Getting Lilly dressed can be a pain.  She does not sit still.  I didn't fight this one
and let her crawl around in her diaper for a bit before tackling her to get her dressed.

Fading fast.  Lilly actually slept through much of her first present
opening experience.  Dad looks pretty tired too.

Yup, she liked the boxes.

We took Lilly for a ride on the sled around Nick's parents' yard.
She seemed to have a fun time, despite the cold weather.
