First, happy birthday to my brother Matt! Check out his fabulous Halloween costume at his blog, Research at a Snail's Pace. Along with a friend, he entered an Adam and Jamie look-alike contest and I am super impressed with their work.
We really didn't have any plans of making or getting a Halloween costume for Lilly. We weren't going to take her trick-or-treating since she couldn't eat the candy, and that'd be cheap to use her as a means to get candy for us (although according to my first hour class, you are never too old to go trick-or-treating because you are always someone's kid). However, my sister-in-law Becky sent us Cally's bunny Halloween costume from when she was a little one. So, we figured we had to put the cute thing to use.
In Ashland most of the trick-or-treating happens on the west side of town. In fact, people who live on and around Chapple Avenue often spend hundreds of dollars on candy for kids. A former student of mine said her family has $300 worth of candy at home and if this year is anything like last year, most of it will be gone. The city even puts up cones and stops traffic from driving on a few blocks of Chapple. Since Lilly loves chaos and watching other people, we figured she'd get a kick out of seeing all the kids in their Halloween costumes. So, we grabbed her costume, stuck her in the car, drove to the other side of town, dolled her up, and headed out.
Then, just a jaunt down the street to one set of cones, then back to the other. Lots of, "oh, she's cute!" or "Look at the cute bunny!". Lilly did get one treat - a toothbrush.

Our first stop was at our friend Elizabeth's house. We did take candy from her and just had a quick visit.
After that, we walked on over the Crazy Street. I don't know how this timed out - but as we approached Chapple we ran into my cousin Abby, her husband Jamie and their son Miles. If we had spent just one more minute talking with Elizabeth, or stopped to talk to another one of Nick's colleagues we saw on our way over, we would not have seen them. Crazy.

Finally, we headed home. Since we were gone for a peak trick-or-treating time, we missed out on most of the kids that would have come to our house. We turned the porch light on when we got home and probably had 5 sets of kids come to our door. Guess my students get leftover candy!
Happy Halloween!
That's one cute bunny. :)
