Lilly turned six-months old a few weeks ago. She had her best visit at the doctor's office yet, only crying when she got her shots. Her stats:
Weight: 16lbs, 50th percentile
Head Circumference: 44 cm, 90th percentile
Length: 27.75 in, above 95th percentile (50th percentile for 10-month olds)
Nick calls her an orange on a toothpick, which is a pretty apt description. Her current tricks include blabbing with an occasional consonant, scooting (which as of 9/6 includes a frog kick with her left leg), sitting like a champ and grabbing for toys, and beginning to try getting things with her thumb and forefinger. Sleeping is getting better, most are still around 45 minutes but she takes hour naps at least a few times a week. Usually she isn't too much of a bear to put down. At night it often takes a second quick rocking to get her down after our first attempt. We have been trying dream feeding, where I feed her without really waking her up right before I go to bed. She'll fuss again between 1-2, but she either calms herself down or Nick can get her back to sleep. Then I am usually feeding her again around 3:30-4, she wakes up for the day between 7-8.

The night of the fourth of September, the day before the first day of classes for both of us, Lilly made a funny coughing sound in her sleep. We thought, that was weird, but decided to check on her if she made the sound again. About ten or so minutes later, she did and followed it with crying, so I went upstairs to check on her. I pick her up from her crib and then POWAH - puke all over the floor. Of course I call up Nick, and while he's on his way, she pukes again. It turns out those coughs were also pukes. Our resourceful little girl, after puking once and us not coming up, just rotated and scooted to the other end of her crib. Once she puked there, I imagine her saying, "okay folks, I dealt with this the first time, now it is your turn to help me out." Lilly's color was pretty much drained from her face and she felt pretty cold and clammy. No fever and she didn't seem like she was too bothered by the puking (no crying or fussing, actually somewhat chipper!). She puked a few more times, then slept from about 12:30-4:00 or so. We decided that even though she hadn't thrown up since 11:30, it would be best to keep her home, rather than infecting other kids. Nick went into work about 11:45 that night to get his syllabi copied and make sure he was set for classes the next day, I typed up sub plans on the iPad while holding Lilly. Our first day of classes was pretty crazy - I went into work in the morning, then rushed home after my fourth hour class. Nick taught at 12:00, I was done at 11:32. My last two classes of the day had to have a sub on the first day, which is kind of a bummer, but they didn't seem to upset with me the next day. The adventures of parenthood and working full time!
